Untitled - For some reason, I like taking photographs of alleys and laneways, especially if there is a sense of disorder or decay. I also like bins, be they for garbage or recycling. I couldn't think of a good title for this photo. This photo's Flickr Page.
Photoblogs I like, part 1.IstoicaEVERYDAY: I met Christopher and Jessica, the photographers behind this blog, at the Gladstone during the International Photobloggers Meetup. Since then, I have gone through most of the archives of this blog. I admire all of their photographs - the ones I have seen anyway. I think they have an exceptional talent for portraiture and they have produced some especially engaging portraits. Here are two examples: Sam (from Daily Dose of Imagery); and Bars Before Windows. You can also visit Istoica on Flickr at http://www.flickr.com/photos/istoica.
Protest & Counter-Protest - In case you missed it, Ryerson University conferred an honorary doctorate on Margaret Somerville today. She is an ethicist and an outspoken opponent of same-sex marriage. Many faculty members, staff, and LBGT community members protested the award. Some turned their backs when the degree was conferred.
Three masked men (I assume they were men) showed up to stage a counter-protest. Their protest was weakened significantly by their cowardly masks and ridiculous slogans.
Abstract - The Hydro Building, now Ontario Power Generation, has turned out to be the most photographed subject on my blog. Its curved facade creates amazing reflections, especially on cloudy days. Nikon FM and Kodak Elite Chrome slide film. This photo's Flickr Page (with comments).
Open - This was an attempt to make a toy camera photo without a toy camera and without Photoshop. Instead, I used my Nikon FM, some Kodak Tri-X, and a darkroom. I think it worked. This was taken behind Varsity Arena at the University of Toronto. I am fairly certain that this area has been razed for the new Varsity Centre. This photo's Flickr Page.
Bridge - This is a photo I took a couple of years ago at one end of the bridge that crosses Church Street and connects the Rogers Communication Centre with Kerr Hall East at Ryerson University. I like the symmetry in this one. Taken with a Nikon FM. Film was Kodak 400TX. This photo's Flickr Page (with comments).
After the Storm - More infrared trees from High Park, Toronto. I am not really sure if a storm did bring this tree down, but I couldn't come up with a good title. Camera: Nikon FM, 50mm F1.8 lens. Film: Kodak HEI High Speed Infrared Film. Developer: Dektol. This photo's Flickr Page. Technorati Tags: Toronto, High Park, infrared, trees
prev | home | next prev | home | next Lego - a bit of frivolity for today, since I have a meeting ahead of me and some sort of other meeting later about a big database. This photo's Flickr Page (with comments - and you can also see the whole photo without scrolling).
Candles - from St. James Cathedral. I spent an hour there two or three years ago, and took may shots of stained glass and then these candles. Someone thought this was a photo of light bright. Nikon FM; 50mm f1.8 lens, Kodak Elite Chrome. This photo's Flickr Page (with comments).
Crane with Bicycle - Taken on Dundas Street, Toronto, just after my flat tire, near the Robert Watson Lofts. If I had time, I'd go back and take this again, because the composition could be improved. This photo's Flickr Page.
Tipi 2 - This is different view of the tipi at Dufferin Grove Park in Toronto. Camera: Nikon FM, 50mm f1.8 lens lens, Kodak Elite Chrome; scanned on a Nikon slide scanner. This photo's Flickr Page.
